In response to the growing interest in bounding error approaches,
the editors of this volume offer the first collection of papers to
describe advances in techniques and applications of bounding of the
parameters, or state variables, of uncertain dynamical systems.
Contributors explore the application of the bounding approach as an
alternative to the probabilistic analysis of such systems, relating
its importance to robust control-system design.
This volume brings together a group of authors that address the
question of the first out of Africa into Asia c. 2 Ma. The scope of
the book is comprehensive as it covers almost every major region of
Asia. The primary goal of this volume is to provide an updated
synthesis of the current state of the Asian paleoanthropological
and paleoenvironmental records. Papers include detailed studies of
the theoretical constructs underlying the move out of Africa,
including detailed reconstructions of the paleoenvironment and
possible migration routes. Other papers detail the Plio-Pleistocene
archaeological and hominin fossil records of particular regions.

This self-contained astrophysics textbook for advanced
undergraduates explores how stars form, what happens to them as
they age, and what becomes of them when they die. Students can
investigate the physical processes sustaining the energy output of
stars during each stage of their evolution and which drive the
progression from one stage to the next, and examine the
relationship between different stages of stellar evolution and the
production of the chemical elements. The textbook contains a wealth
of worked examples and exercises with full solutions. Summaries,
key facts and equations are clearly identified, and there are full
colour illustrations throughout. Drawing on decades of experience
in supported learning and independent study, this textbook is an
ideal bridging text for astrophysics and physics majors looking to
move on from the introductory texts. Accompanying resources to this
textbook are available at: http:

Missouri is well-known for its German American heritage, but the
story of nineteenth-century German immigrant abolitionists is often
neglected in discussions of the state’s history. This collection
of ten original essays (with a foreword by renowned Missouri
historian Gary Kremer), relates what unfolded when idealistic
Germans, many of whom were highly educated and devoted to the
ideals of freedom and democracy, left their homeland and settled in
a pre–Civil War slave state. Fleeing political persecution during
the 1830s and 1840s, immigrants such as Friedrich MÃœnch, Eduard
MÃœhl, Heinrich Boernstein, and Arnold Krekel arrived in the area
now known as the Missouri German Heritage Corridor in hopes of
finding a land more congenial to their democratic ideals. When they
witnessed the state of enslaved Blacks, many of them became
abolitionist activists and fervent supporters of Abraham Lincoln
and the Union in the emerging Civil War. Editor Sydney Norton and
the other contributing authors to Fighting for a Free Missouri
explore the Germans’ abolitionist mission, their relationships
with African Americans, and their activity in the radical wing of
the Republican Party.
Social skills are at the core of mental health, so much so that
deficits in this area are a criterion of clinical disorders, across
both the developmental spectrum and the DSM. The Practitioner's
Guide to Empirically-Based Measures of Social Skills gives
clinicians and researchers an authoritative resource reflecting the
ever growing interest in social skills assessment and its clinical
applications. This one-of-a-kind reference approaches social skills
from a social learning perspective, combining conceptual background
with practical considerations, and organized for easy access to
material relevant to assessment of children, adolescents, and
adults. The contributors' expert guidance covers developmental and
diversity issues, and includes suggestions for the full range of
assessment methods, so readers can be confident of reliable, valid
testing leading to appropriate interventions.
Key features of the Guide:
- An official publication of the Association for Behavioral and
Cognitive Therapies
- Describes empirically-based assessment across the
lifespan.
- Provides in-depth reviews of nearly 100 measures, their
administration and scoring, psychometric properties, and
references.
- Highlights specific clinical problems, including substance
abuse, aggression, schizophrenia, intellectual disabilities, autism
spectrum disorders, and social anxiety.
- Includes at-a-glance summaries of all reviewed measures.
- Offers full reproduction of more than a dozen measures for
children, adolescents, and adults, e.g. the Interpersonal
Competence Questionnaire and the Teenage Inventory of Social
Skills.
As social skills assessment and training becomes more crucial to
current practice and research, the Practitioner's Guide to
Empirically-Based Measures of Social Skills is a steady resource
that clinicians, researchers, and graduate students will want close
at hand.
David and Mary Norton present the definitive scholarly edition of
one of the greatest philosophical works ever written. This second
volume begins with their 'Historical Account' of the Treatise, an
account that runs from the beginnings of the work to the period
immediately following Hume's death in 1776, followed by an account
of the Nortons' editorial procedures and policies and a record of
the differences between the first-edition text of the Treatise and
the critical text that follows. The volume continues with an
extensive set of 'Editors' Annotations', intended to illuminate
(though not intepret) Hume's texts; a four-part bibliography of
materials cited in both volumes; and a comprehensive index.
